Sept 29: Nairobi

I’ve had far less wifi than I expected so have only been posting on FB. But I want this blog to be a good record of my adventures, so I’m going to repost those entries here.

To start: my first day in Africa I spent exploring Nairobi with my two travel-friends and our guide. We expressed interest in seeing the city, getting a view, perhaps seeing a library and a market, and eating at a local restaurant. Finally, I asked if there was a botanical garden we could see. Here’s how it worked out!

- I had the Taste of Kenya breakfast - the best bit was the cooked green bananas with a spicy tomato sauce

- We went to the Central Business District, and paid to visit the roof of the Kenya International Convention Center to enjoy the breezes and get stellar views.

- We stopped in a special library that mainly serves as an archive for all newspapers published in Kenya since the late 1800s.

- We walked through a market and had tiny sweet bananas.

- We got lunch at a restaurant serving Kenyan food.

- We visited a nursery (there was some confusion about what we meant by Botanical Garden, but this was lovely too!)

- I made it to a reasonable bedtime and got to experience the joys of turndown service complete with hot water bottle!

  1. Do they normally tuck the ends of the mosquito net under the mattress?

    1. Nope, they let them hang down. I guess mosquitoes can’t get up under the netting since it’s hanging against the bed.
